PATTERN: OVERALLS FOR 16 INCH WALDORF DOLL (English)

OVERALLS FOR 16 INCH WALDORF DOLL

PREPARATION

Yarn: Puppy Shetland DK/8ply (11wpi) or any DK weight yarn.
Gauge: 22 sts/10 cm (4 inches)
Needles: JPN#6 (3.9mm) or US5-6 circulars for magic loop method, or DPNs, depending on your preference.
Notions: 1 marker, tapestry needle, 2 stitch holders or waste yarn.

PATTERN
LEG 1

[Hem to Crotch]

CO 40sts

Place marker for beginning of round and join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches.

R1-R25: Knit stockinette stitch for 25 rows (or until desired leg length). Slip marker as you knit.

[Crotch to Waist]

R1: Remove marker and BO first 6 sts (34 sts remaining, including the one on your right needle.)

You will now start knitting flat.

continue R1 (rs): K33 turn work

R2 (ws): P34 turn work

R3 (rs): K34 turn work

Rep R2 and R3 five more times. (11 rows of stockinette knitted in the flat.)

Leave about 8 inches of yarn and cut.

Place 34 sts on stitch holder or waste yarn.

LEG 2

Work as Leg 1, but DO NOT CUT YARN OFF after knitting 11 rows of stockinette in the flat.

Okay, not exactly the best seaming job ever,
but reasuring for those of you who, like myself, are not experts at seaming, right?

JOINING LEGS (SEAMING CROTCH)

1) Arrange the two knitted legs so that the 6 BO stitches on both legs face each other.

2) With the 7-8 inch tail from one leg, start seaming the edge of the flat stockinette down to the BO stitches using the Mattress Stitch method. (see below for tutorial)

3) Continue seaming the 6 BO stitches using the Invisible Horizontal Seam method. (see below for tutorial)

4) Continue seaming the edge of the flat stockinette up to the live stitches on stitch holder or waste yarn using the Mattress Stitch method.

* The beginning and end of the seaming may seem a bit tricky because of the live stitches on the stitch holder or waste yarn.

WAIST

1) Place all stitches on holder (or waste yarn) back onto needles (68 sts).

2) Arrange stitches so that the beginning of the round is at the center of the pants (where you just finished seaming the crotch).

3) Place marker for beginning of round.

4) Knit in the round for 10 rows or until waist line reaches desired length. Slip marker as you knit.

PREPARING for BIB and STRAPS

Next row: K10, BO17, K3 (place these 3 sts on stitch holder or waste yarn), BO8, K3 (place these 3 sts on stitch holder or waste yarn), BO17, K10.

* You now have 20 live stitches on your needles for the bib in the front, and two sets of 3 stitches for the straps in the back (both on stitch holders or waste yarn).

BIB

*The bib is knitted flat.

R1 (rs): K10 turn work

R2 (ws): P20 turn work

R3 (rs): K20 turn work

R4 (ws): same as R2

Repeat R3 and R4 four more times (or until 4 rows shorter than desired length). Make sure to end with ws.

[Create Button Holes on BIB]

(rs): K2, K2tog, YO, K12, YO, SSK, K2

(ws): P20

(rs): K20

(ws): BO 20 stitches.

* Technically you will have 1 row fewer on the left side of the bib than the right, but it really doesn't show.

STRAP 1

R1 (rs): Pick up 1 st to the right of the 3 sts on stitch holder (or waste yarn) and knit.  Place 3 sts on stitch holder (or waste yarn) to left needle and K3.  Pick up 1 st to the left of the last stitch you just knitted, and knit.

Turn work.

* You now have 5 sts for the strap. Picking up stitches on both sides of the 3 sts in the stitch holder (or waste yarn) keeps the strap more sturdy.

R2 (ws): P5 turn work.

R3 (rs): K5 turn work.

Repeat R2 and R3 until desired length. (I like the straps to be long enough to cross in the back.)

BO 5 sts.

STRAP 2

Same as STRAP 1

FINISHING

Weave in all ends.

Sew on 1 button on the rs of each strap.

I used leftover yarn and thus ran out while knitting the straps..
I would've made them a few rows longer..

LACY HEM DECORATION (Optional)

Using lace weight yarn (or Mohair) of contrasting color, knit or crochet picot around the hem in your preferred method.

* I did the following:

R1: SC into all CO sts (34sts).

R2: SC1, into 1st SC st, Ch3, skip one st and SC1 into 3rd st, etc.

Continue with Ch3 and SC1 into every other SC st around hem.
